Liturgical Music Ministry

Sing to the Lord a new song!

St. Gerard’s Music Ministry has as it’s primary goal exactly what is stated in our parish mission: To promote “active participation…centered around the celebration of the Eucharist.”

The music team serves all three masses on the weekends with singers and instrumentalists who volunteer their time and talent. New members are always welcome. We especially encourage young people who participate in their school orchestra and band programs to come forward, as their participation is a wonderful way to earn service hours required by their school and Confirmation programs. Opportunities for service also include our Sound Board and Projectionist Teams.

Projection Ministry

Our Projectionist Ministry helps our liturgies run effectively. The prayers, responses and song lyrics on the screens allow mass attendees to participate fully in our community’s prayer.  Training is provided, and team members have the flexibility to operate the slides at the liturgies which best fit their schedules.

Soundboard Ministry

Soundboard operators are essential to our liturgies.  Team members are trained to operate the sound board in order to assure that the levels of speakers, vocalists and instrumentalists are balanced well and able to be heard clearly at our liturgies.  Training is provided and volunteers serve when their schedules permit them to do so.

“Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright.

Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings.

Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.”

– PSALM 33:1-3

Musical History of St. Gerard’s

From it’s beginning in 1974, St. Gerard’s has been blessed with faith-filled, talented and dedicated musicians and singers who have inspired people to praise God by supporting the spoken word and moving us deeper into the message of the Gospels. The strong musical foundations established by former directors such as Christopher Atkins and Patrick Balder remain true today as St. Gerard’s moves deeper into its journey of faith as a community.

Several members of the music team today have been with us for many years, volunteering countless hours through weekly rehearsals and multiple weekend liturgies. In addition to their music commitments, some generously serve in other capacities such as Lectors, Ushers, Faith Formation Teachers, Eucharistic Ministers, Finance and Parish Council members. Those pictured below exemplify St. Gerard’s at its core.

Thank you to our amazing music team. From projectionists and sound techs to instrumentalists, vocalists and our Vietnamese choir.  We are so blessed by your years of dedication to our ministry.
