First Reconciliation and First Communion for Children
The First Communion program at Church of St. Gerard involves a two-year process that prepares your child to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This process includes a combination of parish life activities and formation classes, gatherings with their peers, and parent-led sessions in your home. Our hope is to journey with your family as we learn about the Catholic faith together!!
Guidelines for the process of preparation for the reception of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist
- The child must be in at least the 2nd grade to receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Communion. The process is 2 years for elementary children. Children can begin their formation in the 1st grade.
- The first-year children will focus on the foundational catechism of the Catholic faith.
- In the second year, the children will prepare for and receive the sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession) and First Communion.
Preparation Classes are on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:15pm October – May (students must be registered to prepare for the Sacraments)
